b. This restrained example of the Mediterranean Revival style was originally constructed in the early 1920s as an apartment building. After the Biscayne Boulevard Company developed Biscayne Boulevard, the building was expanded through the addition of retail space facing the city's new thoroughfare. The concept of mixed-use buildings, featuring a combination of residential and commercial units, was among the innovations the Biscayne Boulevard Company introduced to Miami.
