a. Built at the height of the Great Depression, this three-story building
exemplifies the adaptation of the Neo-Classical style to the area's climate.
The ornamentation includes Corinthian capitals and column bases as well
as door and window surrounds of Florida buff marble. This is also the
largest building in Miami constructed of Florida keystone, a soft limestone
that hardens when exposed to the air. The U.S. Post Office and Courthouse
was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.
