b. Working with chisels and hatchets, father and son builders Caleb and Harlan Trapp hewed oolitic limestone by hand and constructed one of the first stone buildings in Coconut Grove. They salvaged timber from foundered lumber ships for the beams of the house. Harlan Trapp became a successful contractor and enlarged the family home around 1929, although the original stone construction is still visible. The Trapp House was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.
