::  Bryan Memorial Methodist Church
3713 Main Highway
Years Built: 1925-1928
Architects: Kiehnel and Elliott
Date Designated: 1997

a. Orator, theologian, and three time presidential candidate William Jennings Bryan was very influential in the design of this unique church building located in Coconut Grove. Bryan sold his estate's highway frontage as the site for the church and served on the building committee. The octagonal building includes excellent examples of Byzantine detailing adapted to the Florida climate. The church is also a rare early example of an accessible religious building, as the ground level entrances provided access for Bryan's wife, who was confined to a wheelchair. This building now houses the Chabad of South Dade.
